Pension Application

On this ninth day of May 1818 before me, the subscriber, one of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of the county of Greene and sate of New York, personally appears John Ackler aged fifty nine years, resident in the town of Catskill county of Greene and state of New York, who being by me first duly sworn, according to law, doth on his oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress entitled “An act of provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war:” That he the said John Ackler enlisted on the month of February or March 1777 in the Town of Catskill in the state of New York in the company commanded by Captain Andrew Finck of the first New York Regiment that he continued to service in the said corps; or in the service of the United Sates until about the tenth of June in the year one thousand seven hundred and eighty three when he was discharged from service in NewBurgh state of New York, that he was stationed during the time at Saratoga, Fort George on Lake George, Fort Stanwix at Schenectada at Valley Forge on campaigns at White Plains, again at Fort Stanwix and that he is in reduced circumstances, and stand in need of the assistance of his country for support and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said service.

On this thirtieth day of May in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty personally appeared in open Court being a Court of Record called the Common Pleas Court for the County of Greene, John Ackler aged sixty one years resident in the Town of Catskill in the County of Greene who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows in Captain Andrew Finks & Captain John Ten Broecks of Infantry in the Regiment of the first New York line, commanded by Colonel Van Schaick, that the original Declaration of the said John Ackler for the benefit of the act entitled “An Act of provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary war” passed on the eighteenth day of March 1818 –bears date the ninth day of May 1818 to the best of his knowledge and belief, and it is inscribed on the pension list Roll of the New York agency Certificate Number 1750 and I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18 th day of March 1818—and that I have not since that time, by gift sale or in any means disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it, as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of congress, entitled “an act of provide for certain persons engaged in the land & naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War, passed on the 18 th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contract or Debits, due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed—

Person Property one cow, one table, four chairs, six cups & saucers, six knives & forks, six plates, one churn, one tea kettle, three iron pots, one pail one wash tub.

That my occupation is that of day labourer, my ability to Labour is impaired by old age & infirmity, the number & names of my family are as follows, Caty aged seventeen years, [blot]havina aged Fifteen years, Gertrude aged twelve years, Lany aged ten years, my children living with me and are dependant upon me for support and my wife named Gertrude, unable to contriubute much to the support of the family on account of old age & want of good sight.
