Pension Application for George Anderson

            On this 10th day of August 1846 personally appeared before me the undersigned a Justice of the peace in and for the County of Ohio & State of Virginia aforesaid and as such one of the Judges of the County Court of Ohio County aforesaid which is a Court of Record., Elizabeth Anderson a resident of the City of Wheeling in the County and State aforesaid aged eighty five years the thirtieth day of November eighteen hundred and forty six, who being first duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by an act of Congress entitled an act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows—viz—that she is the widow of George Anderson who was a volunteer in the service of the United States in the revolutionary war with Great Britain, he having volunteered first at New York under Captain Cheesman to go to Quebec And on his march was taken sick at Albany with the flux but continuing his march from there at some distance he gave out and lay sick some considerable time on account of which he was discharged but when recovered from sickness he again volunteered for five months during which time he was in the battle of Long Island and during said service she believes he filled the office of Sergeant in a volunteer company , his Colonel’s name was Courtland, the other officers she does not recollect their names.  Her husband the said George Anderson she believes was also in the battle of White Plains. At one time he was taken captive by the Indians which was after his having served two tours in the revolution.  The above mentioned events is all that she can with any degree of accuracy recollect after the lapse of so many years.  She further states that she was married to the said George Anderson on the day not remembered but just the days, two weeks after New Years day in the year seventeen hundred and seventy eighty by Silas Banker Esqr of the State of New York. The name of the County she does not remember-that her husband the aforesaid George Anderson died on the third day of July eighteen hundred and twenty three and that she was not married to him prior to his having left the service. But that their marriage too place previous to that time—that is to the first of January 1794 and at the
             Time before stated viz 1778 two weeks after New Years Day.  (Signed with her mark)  Elizabeth Anderson

            I certify that it appears from the military register of the New York Continental Line in the Army of the Revolution, remaining in this office, that George Anderson enlisted for the war in DeWitt’s Company in the third Regiment on the sixth day of December 1776, that he was a corporal June 8, 1777, was reduced May 31, 1779 and that he was discharged December Sixth 1779.  Dated Albany May 26, 1851.  A.
