            On the 9th day of October 1832, personally appeared in open court before the Judges of the Court of Com’n Pleas in and for the County of Chenango and State of New York now sitting Zebulon Ashby aged seventy eight years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed the 7th June 1832—That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated viz that he volunteered as a private soldier at Pauling’s Town in Dutchess County in the Company commanded by Capt. William Pearce, the Lieuts were Benjamin Elliott and Nathaniel Beattie in the Regiment commanded buy Colo. Jacobus Swartout for the term of five months to commence of the first of August 1776 that eh served out the said five months on the lines at White Plaisn and near New York and was discharged at Kingsbridge—that in the spring of the year 1777 he enlisted at Pauling’s Town in Dutchess County for one year in the company commanded by Capt. Daniel Davies in Colo Field’s Regiment – that he was employed with said company on the lines at White Plains, North Castle, North River and in various Scouting and foraging parties in one of which he was wounded in his left legg by a musket ball—that he served out the said year and then engaged again for nine months longer in the same company and regimen tand under the same officers and served with said company at Fredricksburgh in the fall of the year 1778—that after her returned home he was frequently call’d on and turn’ed out alarms on several occasions and went [blotted?] to Peekskill,  Tarry Town & [???] That he has no documentary or other evidence of his said services.  That he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.  (Signed) Zebulon Ashby
