            On this 13th day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred & thirty two personally appeared before me Gilbert Ogden Fowler one of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the County of Orange, Jabez Atwood of the Town of New Windsor in the County aforesaid aged sixty seven years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.  That he enlisted in the Army of the United States in the year 1782 with Captain Hornbeck or Hardenbergh and served in Colonel Weisenvelts Regiment of the New York Line under the following named officers.
            In the spring of the year 1782 deponent enlisted in the Town of New Windsor in the County aforesaid where he then resided and still resides in the company of Captain Hornbeck or Hardenbergh aforesaid as a substitute for a class belonging to Captain Nicholls Company of Militia of the town last aforesaid of which Barney Curryn was head and hired deponent to go for said Class. Deponent cannot recollect the name of any other person belonging to said class in the month of March or April in the year aforesaid after having agreed to serve for said class as aforesaid deponent left New Windsor to join said company then stationed at Warwassink according to deponent’s recollection and belief on the [?] in the County of Ulster and State aforesaid I went with one [Vincent?] Helmer now [?] from New Windsor aforesaid to a place called Hopewell I there passed muster and was then ordered to join the said company at Warwassink according to the best of my recollection and belief one Dewitt the youngest brother of Simon Dewitt Surveyor General of the State of New York and brother in law of General James Clinton was Lieutenant or Ensign of said company the other officers of said company deponent cannot now recollect but deponent well recollects that one Chamber and Van Camp celebrated hunters were privates in said company Weisenvelt was Colonel of the Regiment and one Jansen or Johnson Major of the Regiment or Lieutenant of the Company to which deponent belonged deponent can not now remember which—The Colonels quarters were at Marble Town—Deponent was on of a Detachment ordered to transport ammunition from head quarters and distribute to the Posts along the frontiers from Marble Town to Peepack at the Junction of the Neversink with the Delaware River.  We carried it in our knapsacks.  Deponent served out the term of his enlistment which he thinks was eight or nine months and was discharged about Christmas or New Years at Mumbauckur? in the  County last aforesaid but cannot now remember whether he received a written discharge or not and deponent also saith that he received for his services from the state aforesaid two hundred acres of land which he sold to me.  Dave Shultz of the Town of New Windsor now deceased for 25 dollars [can’t read a line].  He herby relinquishes his every claim whatsoever to a pension or annuity except the present and he declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency in any state.  (Signed) Jabish Atwood
