On this 10th day of April 1818 before me Aaron Read one of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas in & for the county of WestChester personally appeared Holmes Austin aged sixty years a resident in the Town of PoundRidge, County of WestChester and State of New York who being by me first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provisions made by the late act of congress entitled an Act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War; that he the s’d Holmes Austin enlisted in South Salem County of West Chester [?] of New York sometime 1777 as a Corporal for three years in the company commanded by Capt’n Godwin in Col. Duboy’s Regiment in New York Line. That at the Battle at Fort Montgomery the Regiment was but very much & broken up he then enlisted during the war in the company commanded by Hamtramach in Col. Vn Cortlandt’s Regmt New York Line that he continued service in s’d corps or in the Service of the United States until Peace took place when he was discharg’ from service in New Winsor St. of New York. That he was in the Battle at Fort Montgomery at the taking of CornWallace & also at6 the taking of St. Johns & that he is in reduced circumstances & stands in need of the assistance of his country for support. He annexes the affidavit of Joseph Morgan. (Signed) Holmes Austin.
Sworn & Declared the day & year above written before me Aaron Read one of the Judges of the Court of Com. Pleas in & for the County of West Chester.

            On this twenty sixth day of September 1820, personally appeared in open court, the same being a court of record, for the County of Westchester, Holmes Austin aged seventy years, resident in Poundridge of said County who being first duly sworn according tolaw, doth on his oath declare, that he served in the revolutionary war as follows: That he the said Holmes Austin, enlisted for and during the war, in Westchester County & State of New York in the company commanded by Capt’n Godwin, in Col. Dubois Regiment in New York Line on the Continental Establishment that he continued to serve in said Corps until peace took place in 1783 when he was discharged at Snake Hill, that he was at the taking of St. John’s the battles on Fort Island and at White Plains, that in April 1818 he presented his original declaration & rec’d his certificate No. 4877 bearing the 12th day of Dec’r 1818.
            And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States, on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not, since that time, by gift, sale, or in any manner, disposed of my property, or any part thereof, with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress, entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war”, passed on the 18th day of march 1818; and that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts or debts, due to me; nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed, and by me subscribed.             I, William Requa clerk of Westchester County Common Pleas do hereby certify, that the foregoing deposition and the schedule thereto annexed, are truly copied from the record of the said court; and I do further certify, that it is the opinion of the said court, that the total amount in value of the property exhibited in the aforesaid schedule, is no dollars and no cents.
