Pension Application for Peter Bouck

Schoharie County SS.
On the second day of February 1831, personally appeared in open court being a court of record to wit a court of common Pleas held in and for said county of Schoharie, and constituted to said court by Laws and Statues of the State of New York.
Peter Bouck, a resident of the town of Cobelskill in said County of Schoharie; aged Sixty seven years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the act of Congress of the 18th March 1818, and the first of May 1820, that he the said Peter Bouck enlisted for the term of nine months on the first of April 1782, in the State of New York, in the company commanded by Captain Gray (1) in the Regiment commanded by Colonel VanSchaick in the Line of the State of New York on the continental Establishment, that he enlisted to serve in said corps until the first of January 1783; when he was Discharged from the service in the City of Schenectady in the State of New York, that hereby relinquishes every claim whatsoever to a Pension except the present; that his name is not on the Roll of any State Except New York, that the following one the reason for not making application for a pension, because I always supported myself and family honestly until my real and personal property was sold as is herein after stated; and from that time I have supported my self and wife by days labour but now I am gitting old and helpless; I am in such indignint circumstances; that I am in want of relief.
And in pursuance of the act of the first of May 1820, I do solemnly swear that I was resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818; and that not since that time by gift, sale, or in any manner dispose of my real or personal property or any part thereof with intent hereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of any act of Congress entitled “an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War passed on the 14th day of March 1818; and that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me any property, or securities, contracts or debts to myself nor have I any income other that what is contained in the Schedule hereto annexed and by me Subscribed whereas the said Peter Bouck further deposed and says that he the said Peter Bouck and Abraham Bouck, Dec’d on the 18 of March 1818, was in possession of a farm, one lot of land of one hundred and fifteen acres, situate in the Town of Cobleskill & aforesaid; ninety five acres belonged to me, twenty acres belonged to the said Abraham Bouck, Jr. and whereas I the said Peter Bouck was indebted the following debts, wherefor that I the said Peter Bouck and the said Abraham Bouck Jr. have sold and conveyed said land & lot of land to John P. Bellinger of the Town of Cobelskill for the sum of $1825.00, the deed was executed and delivered on the 16th August 1825 for the purpose that the said John P. Bellinger should pay the following debts Judgments, Executions, cost and interest thereon; to wit:
A judgment obtained against me and the said Abraham Bouck, Jr. in favor of Sylvester Kibbey for the sum $284.43.
The said Abraham Bouck Jr. was security for me in the original debt Execution was issued all my and the said Abraham Bouck Jr. personal property was sold by sheriff sale on said Execution then due yet on said Execution $202.32.
Also a judgment and execution acquisition in favor of Dave B. Slingerland $189.55.
Also a Judgment of in favor of Thomas Lawyer with intent $386.20.
Also a Judgment in favor of John Gebhand including cost and interest $526.84.
Also a Judgment in favor of Zebidiah Allen $59.60.
Also a note to Frederick Vogel with interest $58.97.
And also a mortgage to the loan officers for loaning money of the State of New York with including interest thereon $160.20

Which said $321.32 John P. Bellinger had to pay to the said Abraham Bouck Jr. for his Damages on the above Sale of his land and the Sale of personal property by the above Execution on Sheriffs Sale. Than I the the [sic] said Peter Bouck made application to the honorable William Beekman Esquire first judge of the County of Schoharie for the benefit of the instant act to exonerate my body from imprisonment, the discharge was granted and delivered to me October 28th 1826 which will more fully appear in copy hereafter annext I now live in a very small house belonging to Lawrence Lawyer Situate in the town of Cobelskill in this county of Schoharie.
I have no other real estate either in possession Reversion or Remainder in either in law or equity.
Personal Property
I have one cow worth about $10.00
I have Six Sheep worth about 6.00
I have nothing else as my bed bedding and Clothing
I have a wife of Sixty six years old quite weakly
I have no trade. I have no children which lives with me.
I have supported myself and wife for day Labour Since my property was sold, and some times I had to live on the charity of others for want of support. I have an only son 36 years old he has no trade he has a wife and 4 children he is quite weakly he lives about 2 hundred and fifty miles from here since I am informed that he has so much to do as he can do to support him self and family.
And that I the said Peter Bouck do solemnly swear and declare that I have not sold in any manner or disposed my real estate aforesaid neither Did I take the benefit of the insolvent act with intent hereby so to diminish my real or personal property as to bring my self within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War; passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and I have sold my farm to pay my debts aforesaid. Subscribed and sworn in open court this 2d July 1831 before me John Gebhard Jr. Clerk.
Maria or Maria was granted pension at the rate of $20 per annum.
State of New York
Schoharie County SS.
On this 10th day of Dec. 1838, personally appeared before me John Westour a Judge of Schoharie County Court Maria Bouck a resident of the Town of Cobus [sic] in the county of Schoharie aforesaid aged 74 years, who being first duly sworn according to Law, doth on her oath make the following Declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July 7th 1838, entitled “an act granting half pay and pension to certain widows. That she is the widow of Peter Bouck Deceased, to the best of her knowledge and belief that the said Peter Bouck was enlisted in the Army of the United States and served in Capt. Gray company in Col. VanSchaick’s regiment in the revolutionary war; That he the said Peter Bouck was a pensioner of the United States that his pension certificate was dated in the year 1831 or 1832. She the said Maria further declares that she was married to the said Peter Bouck on the third day of February 1788 before the Rev. Peter Nicholas Summer minister of the Lutheran church in Schoharie that her husband the aforesaid Peter Bouck died on the 8th day of July 1834 in the town of Cobelskill in the County of Schoharie that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place previous to the first day of January Seventeen hundred and ninety four; viz; at the time above stated.
She the said Maria further declares that she is the widow of the sd Peter Bouck Deceased that she never was married afterward, of his death but remains his widow to this day. She the said Maria further Declares on her oath that she is unable to appear in court by reason of bodily infirmity on the account that she cannot see and that she lost her eyesight and the other complaints she the said Maria Bouck farther declares that her maiden name was Maria Heans That she was by the enemy taken a prisoner in the revolutionary war and taken to Canada and was kept there a prisoner almost five years, and had to suffer much and after the close of the war she came home only in new [?] in the place where she where she was [sic] taken a prisoner now the town of Sharon. She the said Maria further declares that she is a poor old helpless widow and is in want of relief. (Signed with her mark) Mariah Bouck

2. There was a Peter Bouck who served as a private in Captain Christian Brown’s Company in Colonel Peter Vrooman’s Regiment of Albany County Militia (Fifteenth Regiment). This company served and enlisted from the Cobleskill area. Peter turned 16 in 1780 and by militia law he would have to enroll in the militia company where he resided when he turned 16.
