Pension Application for Robert Campbell

            On this 30th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two personally appeared in open court before the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas for the said county of Allegany, now sitting Robert Campbell, a resident of the Town of Cuba—in the said County and State of New York aged sixty nine years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.—
            That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated—Viz’--
            That in the month of April in the year 1778 (1) he was drafted in the militia in the company commanded by Captain Thomas Whitaker and Lieutenant Samuel Campbell in the regiment commanded by Colonel Campbell, and served for the term of two months when he was dismissed from the service and returned home.--
            That in the year 1781—he was again drafted in the militia and served in the company commanded by Captain Rivier Van Epurah (2) in the regiment commanded by Colonel Clark and served from the 10th of May to the 20th of October following, making about five months—and that during this term of service he was in the battle fought at a place called Stone Arabia.
            That in the fall of the same year he was drafted in the militia in the company of Captain Fisher in the regiment of Colonel Van Rensalier [Van Rensselaer] (3) and that he continued in the service at this time about four months.—
            That he was then dismissed for a short time and about the first of June 1782 he went into the service again in the same company and regiment & continued in the service until the first of October following, making four months.
            That in the month of December in the year 1782—he went into a Continental Shoe manufactory and continued there for two months—and then he served upwards of two months in the company of artificers commanded by Captain Thomas Hicks—(4)
            He has no documentary evidence and he knows of no person whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his service—
            He was born in the Town of Canajoharie in the County of Albany in the State of New York on the 25th day of September in the year 1764—
            He has the record of his age—in his Bible—
            He never received a written discharge from the service—
            He lived at the said Town of Canajoharie when he was first called into the service, that he removed from there to Onondaga County in the said State NY—and then to the Town of Cuba in the County of Allegany where he now resides—
            He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or an annuity and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.  (Signed) Robt. Campbell

Letter in response to request for information, dated August 1, 1929.
            I advise you from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim, S.23565, it appears that Robert Campbell, was born September 25, 1764 at Canajoharie, Albany County, New York.
            While residing at that place, he enlisted and served as a private with the New York Troops, as follows—
            From in April 1778, two months in Captain Thomas Whitaker’s Company, Colonel Campbell’s Regiment; in 1780, four months in Captain Ryner Van veren’s Company, Colonel Clark’s Regiment; and was in the battle of Stone Arabia; in 1781, four months in Captain Fisher’s Company, Colonel Van Rensselaer’s Regiment; from June 1, 1782, four months in Captain Fisher’s Company, Colonel VanRensselaer’s Regiment; and from in December 1782, two months in Captain Thomas Hicks’ Company of Artificers.
            He was allowed pension on his application executed October 30, 1832, at which time he was a resident of Cuba, Allegany County, New York.  There are no data as to family.
