Pension Application for Simeon Foot

            On the fourth day of December A.D. 1832, personally appeared in open court before the Hon. Edward Herrick president and his associates, Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of the County of Susquehanna and the State of Pennsylvania now sitting.
            Simeon Foot of Lennox township in the County of Susquehanna and State of Pennsylvania, aged Sixty eight years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.
            That he entered the service of the United States, under the following named officers, and served as hereinafter stated—to wit.  That on the first of April in the year 1780, at the town of New Lebanon in the County of Columbia and State of New York he enlisted in a company commanded by Capt. Silas Gray—said company belonged to a Regiment under the command of Colonel McInster for the term of six months—marched through Stephentown—Greenbush, Albany, Stillwater, Saratoga, and was discharged at that place on or about the first of October 1780.
            And the said Simeon Foot further states that at the town of New Lebanon, in the County and State aforesaid, he went into the army on a draft as a substitute for a man by the name of Gelatt in a company commanded by Capt. Cherry about the middle of March 1781.  I joined the army at West Point where the company was attached to a Regt under the command of colonel Cortland—marched from thence with the Regts to “Kings Ferry” and from thence to “Totoway” and from thence to the “English Neighborhood” and was there discharged about the middle of June 1781, and returned to New Lebanon.
            And the said Simeon Foot, on his oath, further stated that immediately on his return from Saratoga to New Lebanon, he enlisted in a company commanded by Capt. Josiah Skinner, for the term of three years.—marched with the company thro. Stephentown to Albany—remained stationed at Albany a short times.—there joined a Regiment commanded by Colonel Merinos [Marinus] Willet and marched to Fort Plain, on the Mohawk River remained with the Regiment at Fort Plain until (as near as he can recollect) sometime in November when the Americans were attacked by a party of British, and a general battle ensued, called “the battle of Johnstown” in which he was actively engaged against the enemy; the British were repulsed and compelled to retreat.—On the following day he among others—volunteered to march in pursuit of the British forces. They were overtaken at “Canada Creek”, when a battle ensued, in which Butler, the British officer commanding, was killed, and the remainder of the party dispersed. He then returned with Col. Willet to Fort Plain.—He remained in service in the neighborhood of Fort Plain, Fort Hunter, Fort Herkimer and Fort Stanwix until the close of the war, and was discharged at Fort Plain, sometime in the month of Nov 1783.
            And the said Simeon Foot on his oath further states, that he was well acquainted with Generals Putnam and Schuyler, that he has no documentary evidence, and that he knows of no person whose testimony he can procure except it maybe the testimony of Kezekiah Dibble and Lena Barkers, whose affidavits went to prove his service under Col. Willett and their affidavits were forwarded with an application to Congress to put him on the pension roll in the fall of 1830—which affidavits were not returned to him.
            He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state—to his knowledge.  (Signed) Simon Foot.
