            On this 27th day of April 1818 before me the subscriber one of the Judges of the court of Common Pleas in & for the County of Columbia & State of New York personally appears John C. Fuhr aged fifty six years resident in Germantown in the said County & State, who being by me first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of congress entitled and “act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land & naval Service of the United States in the Revolutionary War.—“
            That he the said John C. Fuhr enlisted at Albany in October 1778 for the War in Captain Austin’s Company in Colonel Gansvoort’s regiment in the New York line of Continental troops—He continued to serve in said corps until the five New York Regiments were consolidated into two under the command of Colonels VanSchaack and Cortlandt when he was arranged in Colonel VanSchaack’s regiment in Captain Leonard Bleeker’s company—He continued in the corps last above mentioned until May or June 1783 when he was discharged, at the close of the war near Newburgh in said State.
            That he was at the capture of Lord Cornwallis at York-town and in General Sullivan’s expedition against the Indians in 1779 and in active service during all the above period—That he has no evidence now in his home of his said services excepting the affidavit of Charles F. Brown who was for in the same company with him for nearly all the above time—That he is in reduced circumstances & stands in need of the assistance of his country for support. (Signed) John C. Fuhr
