Pension Application for Joshua Furman
(The following was part of a pension application for Abraham Furman. Since I have no plans to do New Jersey and transcribe Joshua Furman's pension, I will include this part on a separate page.)

Letter dated October 13, 1936 written in reply to a request for information.
 
            The data which follow are obtained from the papers on file in Revolutionary War pension claim, W.543, based upon the military service of Joshua Furman in that war.
            Joshua Furman was born in February, 1755, in Trenton Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The names of his parents are not shown.
            While a resident of said Trenton Township, New Jersey, Joshua Furman volunteered about the middle of July 1776, and served until sometime in 1783, on monthly tours, about thirty tours and at least three years in all, sometimes each alternate month, as a private under Lieutenant Howell, Captains John Mott, John Hunt, William Tucker, Philip Phillips, Freeland, Ralph Phillips, Timothy Titus, and Ralph Guild and Colonel Joseph Phillips in the New Jersey Troops.  He was in a skirmish at Crosswicks but was ill at the time of the taking of the Hessians and unable to take part in that engagement.  Soldier stated that his brother Daniel served also, often alternating with him.  Daniel was deceased in 1832.
            Joshua Furman was allowed pension on his application executed October 10, 1832, while residing in Trenton Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
            The soldier died February 20, 1840, in Ewing Township, Mercer County (that part which was formerly Trenton Township, Hunterdon County) New Jersey.
            Joshua Furman married Mary 21, 1814, in Trenton Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey (later Ewing Township, Mercer County) Sarah Hendrickson.  The date and place of birth of Sarah and names of her parents are not shown.
            Soldier’s widow, Sarah, was allowed pension on her application executed April 22, 1853, at which time she was aged eighty-two years and a resident of Hopewell Township, Mercer County, New Jersey.
            No reference was made to children.
            In 1853, Huldah Hendrickson, aged seventy-four years and Elnathan Hendrickson, age not stated, made affidavits in Mercer County, New Jersey, in support of the widow’s claim for pension: in 1855, one Thomas Hendrickson lived in Hopewell Township, New Jersey; no relationship of any of the above named persons to the widow, Sarah Hendrickson Furman, was stated.
