Pension Application for Christopher Hall

            On this 13th day of December one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine, personally appeared before me Henry W. Spencer, a Justice of the peace in and for said County Sarah Benedict of the Town of Broadalbin, she being first duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following supplementary declaration to the one now on file in the pension office under the act of Congress of July 7th 1838.
            That while her first husband (Christopher Hall) named in her original declaration was alive and while they resided together in the capacity of husband and wife, and while conversing together at different times on the subject of the revolutionary war, she often heard him say that he had served nine months in Colonel Willett’s regiment at one time in and about Johnstown and along the Mohawk River.
            She further declares that when her original declaration was prepared she did not at that time remember that he had ever served any time about the length of time which he served in this state but on more mature reflection and thinking the matter over she now well remembers that he had informedly stated that he had served nine months at one time in Colonel Willett’s regiment, but as for the names of his captains or subaltern officers she cannot now remember their names.  And further this deponent saith not.             Sworn to and subscribed this 13th day of December 1849, before me Henry W. Spencer, Justice of the Peace.
Revolutionary Widow’s Claim

            On this the 31st day of March A.D. 1855 before me a justice of the Peace in and for the county and state aforesaid personally appeared Sarah Benedict aged eighty three years a resident of Broadalbin Fulton county, State of New York who being duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the Bounty Land to which she is entitled under the act of Congress approved March 5th 1855.
            That she is the widow of James Benedict her second and last husband and formerly widow of Christopher Hall, a private in the Revolutionary War, that on account of the services of her husband, the aforesaid Christopher Hall  in said war, she now received a pension at the rate of twenty seven dollars and ten cents per annum under the “Act of February 1848, as will more fully appear by reference to the evidence now on file in the pension office at Washington & recorded in Pension list roll, Page 14, Vol 4—She further declares that she is now a widow; that she has never before applied for nor received any Bounty Land under this or any other act of Congress.  (Signed with her mark) Sarah Benedict.

            In the file the following information is recorded.  Enlisted 1778 for one year as a private under Colonel Ledyard, Conn. Enlisted 1782 for 9 mos. Under Captains Nathl. Henry & Peter B. Tearse, Colonel Willet, NY.
            Enlisted at or near New London, Conn.  Widow applied for pension Oct 23, 1849.  Residence at date of application, Broadalbin, Fulton Co., NY.  Age at date of application, seventy-seven years.
            He married at Lenox Mass, Dec. 11, 1788, Sarah Peck.  Children, Sally b. July 9, 1789; Phebe b. June 30, 1791; Henry B. Mch 28, 1793 (4th died), Christopher Jr. b. June 9, 1797; John b. Sept. 20, 1799; James b. Sept. 19, 1802 & Caleb b. 1807.  Sol. d. Broadalbin Apl ?6, 1829 & Sarah Mar. Apl. 17, 1833 James Benedict who died July 18, 1849 at Broadalbin & she was pens. as widow of Christopher Hall.
