            On this fifth of October A.D. 1833 personally appeared in Open Court before the court of Common Pleas of Seneca County in the State of Ohio at the October Term thereof Zekiel Lane of Pleasant Township in said County aged seventy eight years who being first sworn according to law on his oath makes the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Oct of Congress passed June 7th A.D. 1832.
            That he was born at Crum Pond on the east side of the North River and does not know the name of the County on the 19th day of December 1755 as He is informed and believes, he has no record of his birth.
            About the middle of April 1777 then residing at Sandy Town in Sussex County in the State of New Jersey he entered into the service of the United States as a private soldier at said Sandy Town—He entered as a volunteer in a company of Volunteers Commanded by Capt. Peter Westbrook, James Westfall was Lieutenant and Cornelius Westfall, Ensign. He was engaged in scouting, guarding fording places along the Delaware river and in small garrisons near said River. From one of those places he crossed over the River into Pennsylvania and joined another company under the command of Capt. Vannatta and had a skirmish with the Indians and Tories in which Capt. Westbrook, Lieutenant Benjamin Aries, and Alexander Rosegrants were killed—After whose decease John Westbrook was elected Captain and Cornelius Westbrook Lieutenant to fill the vacancies. Under these officers he continued to serve until in the winter when he was discharged, having served at least six months. He received a written discharge from his Captain, and has lost it.
            Again about the first of April 1778 he entered into the Service of the United States at Sandy Town aforesaid as a private Solider—a volunteer in the same company and under the same officers and was employed as in the year before in scouting guarding the fording places, and small garrisons along the Delaware river until in the winter following when he was regularly discharged having served at least six months. He received a written discharge but has lost it.
            Again in April 1779 he entered into the service of the United States at Sandy Town aforesaid in the same company and under the same officers a volunteer private soldier—he was again employed in scouting, guarding, and in small garrisons as before—he served until winter since was again regularly discharged. This time he did not receive a written discharge. The [deponent?] does not now recollect the names of any Regular Officers, He was generally in small parties under a Cpatin whose name except in a few instances his company was joined by two or three others, they were commanded by Col. Rosecrantz and Major Samuel Westbrook.
            Since the Revolutionary War he has resided at [Bayfular?] Creek and Catarugus [Cattaraugus?] in the State of New York—In may 1833 he removed into the State of Ohio and landed at Cleveland where he made a temporary Stay and then settled in Pleasant Township, Seneca County Ohio where he now resides. He has no documentary evidence of his services and knows of no person except William Decker whose deposition accompanies this declaration whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his service Cyrus Hunt and Martin Lane are persons in his neighborhood who can testify to his reputation as a soldier.
            He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of the Agency of any State. (Signed with his mark) Ezekiel Lane

September 28, 1925, reply to a request for information.
            I have to advise you from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim S-23760, it appears that Ezekiel Lane was born December 13, 1755 or 1760 (place not stated).
            While residing in Upper Smithfield, Pennsylvania he enlisted in May 1775 and served to November 1775 as a private in Captain John VanSickle’s Company, Colonel J. Stroud’s Pennsylvania Regiment and was in several skirmishes with the Indians.
            He enlisted in April of May 1777 and served to November 1777 in Captain Moses Kortwright’s Company under Major Decker in the New York Troops.
            Wile residing in Sandistown, New Jersey he enlisted and served in Captains Peter Westbrook and John Westbrook’s Companies, Colonel John Rosekranz’ New Jersey Regiment as follows:
            From April 1778 to November 1778; from April 1779 to November 1779 and from April 1780 to November 1780.
            He was allowed pension on his application executed October 5, 1833 while a resident of Pleasant Township, Seneca County, Ohio.
            It is not stated whether he was married. The date of his death is not on record. He was a resident of Buffalo, New York in 1848.

December 9, 1911, reply to another letter.
            In reply to your letter dated the 4th and received the 7th instant, you are advised that from the papers in the claim of Exekiel Lane, (Sur. File NO. 23,760 Rev. War) whose record was furnished you under date of March 2, 1904, it appears that he applied for pension October 5, 1833, in Pleasant Township, Seneca County, Ohio, and his certificate was issued November 5, 1833 on the Pittsburg Ohio Agency but on October 13, 1843 in Chautauqua County, New York, he applied again, stating that he had not received said certificate and as no many had been paid thereon, a certificate was issued in liew [sic] thereof, April 26, 1844, on the Albany, New York Agency. From this it will be seen that he did not draw a double pension.
            The soldier stated that he was born December 13, 1755, at Crompond (New York), the date of his death is not sown, nor is there any reference to service in the War of 1812.
            You are further advised that the above is the only Ezekiel Lane found on the Revolutionary War pension records, which fail to afford any information in regard to Martin Middaugh.
