Pension Application for Theobald (Daybold) Meyer (Moyer)

            On the Second day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight personally appeared in open court before the Court of Common Pleas held in and for the County of Herkimer aforesaid at the Courthouse in the Town of Herkimer in said County in the term of October of the said Court in the year aforesaid, the same being a court of record according to the laws & constitution of said State Margaret Moyer widow of Theobald or Daybold Moyer late of the  Town of Manheim in said County aged eighty years and upwards who being first duly sworn according to law doth upon her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July 7, 1838 entitled “An act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows”  That she is the widow of the said Theobald or Daybold Moyer now deceased who was a revolutionary soldier and served in the war of the revolution in the army of the United States and the said Margaret Moyer further says that her said Theobald or Daybold Moyer was before and at the time of his death a revolutionary pensioner of the United States and drew his pension up to the last semi annual payment which would accrue to him as such pensioner and she would respectfully represent that her declaration of his revolutionary services and proofs of the same on which such pension aforesaid was granted to him are as she is advised and believes on file in the office of the Secretary of War of the United States and she begs leave to refer her honorable the Secretary of War to the said declaration and proofs in support and proof of her claim which she herein makes for a pension as the widow of the said Theobald or Daybold Moyer and she the aid Margaret Moyer says that as she understood the said Theobald or Daybold Moyer he was during his revolutionary services engaged in Turlock battle fought somewhere towards the Susquehannah river and a part of the time he served in Capt. Jost Dygerts Company which was at that the time he was in the service at Fort Stanwix; and he was also in the battle at Johnstown and some of the time he served in Col. Willetts Regiment and for the particulars she respectfully refers to the declaration & proofs aforesaid on which the said Theobold or Daybold obtained his said pension—And she the said Margaret Moyer further says that she was married to the said Theobald or Daybold Moyer in the fall after the Oriskany battle and as she recollects she was married three weeks before Christmas and near the first day of December in the year 1777 but she cannot recollect the precise day of the month and she says that there was once a record of her age in a bible but her sister afterwards took it and she don’t know where it now is and that she was married in now Town of Manheim aforesaid in a house of Mr. Jacob Snell near her husband’s father’s house and Dominie Gros a clergyman solemnized the marriage, who has been dead a great many years; and she further says her said husband the aforesaid Theobold aor Daybold Moyer died on the seventh day of April in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight at the Town of Manheim aforesaid and that she & her said husband lived together as husband & wife until his death and that she has never intermarried since the death of her said husband—(Signed with her mark) Margaret Moyer
