Invalid Pension Application for Finley Stewart
W.16,421 (Widow: Isabella)
His name appears on a list of applicants for invalid pension returned by the District Court for the District of New York, submitted to the House of Representatives by the Secretary of war on April 25, 1794, and printed in the American State Papers, class 9, pages 95 and 165.

Disability: Wounded in the left shoulder, being fired upon by the enemy when landing.
When and where disabled: Aug. 1777, Fort Stanwix.
Residence: Greenbush.
Remarks: There are no militia rolls in this office.
Evidence transmitted by the District Court incomplete, viz: No evidence when he left the service. No deposition of freeholders to prove recontinuance of disability after he left the service.
On page 165, it is stated, evidence complete excepting that what is now transmitted is taken before two commissioners instead of three, as required by law, and that the examining physicians in their report donot precisely state the degree of his disability.

I certify that the bearer Finley Stewart who lives with Daniel Cummins of GreenBush is the identical person of that name who is placed on the pension list—I am authorized to make this declaration from same agency I had in the getting him placed on the said list, and also drawing first pension money and paying it to him. In this 31st day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight, personally appeared before the Justice Court of the City of Albany (the same being a court of record) Isabella Stewart a resident of the City of Albany in said County aged seventy five years, who, being first duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefits of the provision made by the Act of Congress, passed July 7, 1838, entitled “An act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows”.
That she is the widow of Finley Stewart who was a batteauman in the service of the United States in the Revolutionary War, and a Pensioner of the United States under a special Act of Congress passed February 2d, 1798, in which act his is named and described.—
She further declares that she was married to the said Finley Stewart on the twenty ninth day of June in the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety; that her husband the aforesaid Finley Stewart died in April the year one thousand eight hundred and seven.
That she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place previous to the first of January seventeen hundred and ninety four—viz. at the time above stated.—
She further states that her surname previous to her marriage was Coming, and that the ceremony was performed by the Rev’d John McDonald, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Albany—and is unable from defective sight to write her name, and therefore makes a mark a cross for her signature. Archibald Campbell of the City of Albany being duly sworn deposeth that he was well acquainted with the within named Finley Stewart in his lifetime—That said Finley Stewart died in the spring of the year one thousand eight hundred & seven—
This deponent is also well acquainted with the within named Isabella Stewart, and knows her as the wife of the said Finley Stewart, that ever since his death she as remained and [?] the widow of the said Finley Stewart. (Signed) Arch’d Campbell
