Pension Application for Bartholomew J. [Jacob] VanValkenburgh

            On this 16th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight personally appeared in open court before the Judges of the Common Plea of said County Catharine VanValkenburgh a resident of the Town of Prattsburgh in the County of Steuben, aged seventy three years; who being first duly sworn according to Law, doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July 7th 1838 entitled “An act granting half pay and pensions to certain Widows”.  That she is the widow of Bartholomew J. VanValkenburgh; who was a Lieut. Of Infantry in the New York Line of the Army of the Revolution; and a Pensioner under the act entitled “An act for the relief of certain surviving officers and soldier s of the Army of the Revolution approved 15th of May 1828, and that at the death of her said husband his pension certificate to the best of her recollection was returned, to the war office to procure the arreanges then due.  She further declares she was married to the said Bartholomew J. VanValkenburgh; on the 16th day of March (1778) seventeen hundred and eighty eight that her husband the aforesaid Bartholomew J. VanValkenburgh; died on the 4th day of August 1831.  That she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service but the marriage took place previous to the first of January Seventeen hundred and ninety four; viz, at the time above stated, she further declares that she still remains the widow of her said husband that the annexed is the original family record taken from the family Bible, that all the entries are in the hand writing of her husband, the aforesaid Bartholomew J. VanValkenburgh;, and that the same has heretofore always been in her possession.  Sworn to and subscribed on the day and year above written before. Catharine VanValkenburgh

            1782 Sep 24  Schoneman at Coxsackie named Jacob  witness Jacob & Cathelina VanValkenburgh.
            1793  Jany 6th  3 O’Clock P.M. Departed this life Elizabeth the Wife of Bar. J. VanValkenburgh after an illness of fourteen weeks and four days, her body was buried 8th Instant at the Netuenhook.
            1783  Feby 6 7 o’clock  P.M. departed this life Jacob this child of Bar. J. VanValkenburgh, he was Enter. 8th Instant at the Neutenhook.
            1788 Mar 1st Was married (the second time) Bar. J. VanValkenburgh with Catherine Pruyn, Daughter of Hermin Pruyn & Janetie Goes on Sunday 7 O’Clock P.M. [ piece torn] was born until them daughter named Elizabeth baptized by Parson Richmans at Kinderhook Witness Aaron Pruyn & his sister Mary.       
            1790 [piece missing] 7 o’clock PM was born until them a daughter Batp by Parson Laupagh at Kinderhook named Janetie.
            1793 Mar 17, Sunday 6 O’clock AM was born until them a daughter bapt by Parson Laubaugh at Kingerhook Named Bata no Witnesses.
            1795 Thursday 9 O’Clock was born unto them a son batpised by Parson Laupagh at Kinderhook Name Jacob no Witnesses.
            1797 Sunday 8 O’Clock PM. Was born until them a son Bapt by Parson Laupaugh at Kinderhood Na: Heremin Pruyn no Wit’ss.
            1799 July 12th Saturday 1 O’Clock AM Was born unto them a son Baptised by parson Laupaugh at Kinderhook Named Barthley , no witnesses.
            1801 Apr 17 Thursday 8 O’Clock AM was born until them a [missing] bapt by Parson Sickles at Kinderhook name; [missing]
            There is a death recorded, information not legible and part missing.
