Pension Application for George Michael Weaver

On the 29th day of November A.D. 1832, personally appeared in open Court before Nathan Williams Esquire, Vice Chancellor at a Court of Chancery held for the State of New York at the City of Utica now sitting George Michael Weaver a resident of the Town of Deerfield and County of Oneida and State of New York, aged sixty eight years who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832. That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated to wit;
That in the summer of 1777 he served one month and a half as a soldier under Capt. Peter Dygert at Fort Stanwix, George S. Weaver was Lieutenant.
That in the years 1777 & 1778 he served as a fifer in the New York State Militia at least six months the principal part of which time was spent at Fort Dayton (now Herkimer) under Captain Henry Harter and a part at Fort Stanwix under Captain Peter Dygert and a part at Fort Widrick under George I. Weaver who was second Lieutenant.—
That in the year 1779 he served as a soldier in the militia of the State of New York (as a musician) nine months as follows, three months in the Militia under Captain Henry Harter and Captain Henry Staring at Germantown of Herkimer in the now County of Herkimer and six months as a substitute for Rudolph Cook of Stony Arabia this last six months was performed under Capt. McKean at Fort Dayton.
In the year 1780 he served eight months as a musician in the Militia of the State of New York as follows; two months in the Militia under Captain Henry Harter at Fort Dayton; three months under Capt. Marks Damuth at Fort Dayton and three months under Captain Henry Harter at Fort Dayton. In the year 1781, served one month and a half in the militia of the State of New York as a musician at Fort Dayton under Captain Henry Harter. In the year 1782 he served as a musician in the Militia of the State of New York eight days in Col. VanRensellaers Regiment; Capt. Miller’s Company; this service was performed in a march from Claverack to Schenectady in the State of New York.—
That he was born at German Flatts in the now county of Herkimer on the 9th February 1764 and has a record of his age which he produced in open Court; that since the war of the Revolution he has resided in the Town of Deerfield and County of Oneida where he now resides; that during and previous to the war of the Revolution he resided a part of the time at Germantown now Schuyler & County of Herkimer and a part of the time in Herkimer in the County aforesaid.
That the services which are above enumerated in the years 1777 & 1778 were performed as a volunteer the residue of the Term of his service were performed as a substitute or a drafted militia militia man but no part thereof was performed as a substitute except the six months aforesaid.
He does not recollect the names of any of the regular officers if any commanded whilst he was in service; he never received any written discharge nor ever had any commission.
I am known by the Rev’d Geo W. Bethune of Utica, Nicholas B. Weaver & Nicholas Harter of Deerfield, who can testify to my character For veracity and who also know that I performed some part of the services above enumerated. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declare that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency, State or Territory whatever.
